Jay Bennett's Death Ruled Accidental Overdose

Per all news outlets that have been covering this story for the past day, the coroner ruled that Bennett had overdosed on fentanyl, presumably prescribed to him for his pain. There are no signs that the overdose would have been in any way intentional and his need for a strong painkiller is well documented in relation to his major hip injury.

Looks like the conspiracy theories didn’t pan out… but, in all seriousness, it’s still sad to lose such a powerful musician to a fatal error like an accidental overdose. Bennett will not be soon forgotten by fans of Wilco and his solo material. Even those like myself who aren’t big Tweedy or Wilco fans can’t deny how solid Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is as an album… and that is due in large part to the talent of the late Jay Bennett.

In Wilco related news, members of Wilco and Radiohead are joining forces with Johnny Marr of The Smiths to be the most pretentious backing band ever assembled. This hyper-pretentious group will be backing Neil Finn on his new album ( I know it’s not breaking news, but I just read about it). Nothing against Finn, or Marr for that matter, but with that much elitism in one band it will be hard to believe that I could enjoy much more than a minute or two of the collaboration.
