Shorties: Day 2

Day 2 of shorties. Not to be confused with delicious sandwiches from Wawa, but equally as awesome… or not so much in today’s case.

While a 6 doesn’t sound like an awful rating, given that I would have given his last release an 8 or 9, it is not good. On Light, Matthew Paul Miller, better known as Matisyahu, spreads himself a bit thin. Branching out from his more traditional reggae sound doesn’t seem to have done much for him, so may I recommend to Mr. Miller that he return to the wonder of sounds like “Jerusalem” and the ever popular “King Without a Crown”? While the album is not bad and a few tracks will make it onto a few mix CDs and the like, the bulk of this album can and will disappear in my memory.

Never thought too much of Never Shout Never’s pop, but I give everything sent to me a shot. It’s more of the same from Ingle, which is generic pop music. The first track is a Jack Johnson clone. The second sounds like a B-side from any number of of mediocre radio pop bands. So on and so on… “On the Brightside” is the only track I honestly dig much, it earns the bulk of these 4 stars.

Thanks for reading today’s shorties. Whether to your liking or dismay, tomorrow we’ll return to full reviews.
