Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blue
Today’s post… four great songs that you should listen to, including one to DL for free.
Something OLD: Boy Sets Fire’s “Voiceover”
The opener of the In Chrysalis EP, this song kicks the listener’s ass in a way that reminds people of what was right about the emo/hardcore sound of BSF. In the typical hyper-political BSF style, Nathan screams out the lyrics:
And if you think for one fucking second
That they’re not bleeding you for all their worth
Dig your grave now and save them the trouble
Tie yourself down to the fairy tales
Rock and roll!
Something NEW (and FREE): Pill Parcell’s “Do The Robot”
Pill Parcell (previously featured on the Sauce A Million track on September’s mixtape), is another piece of evidence of the awesomeness of the underground hip hop scene in California. Offbeat delivery, witty lyrical content, and phat beats… Pill has it all. Don’t believe me? Download this track for free and you’ll be unable to deny it.
Something BORROWED: Joy Electric’s “1, 2, 3, 4”
While I find the original track by Feist to be annoying at best, Ronnie’s cover off of Favorites at Play, the new Joy E covers album, is totally enjoyable. The Joy Electric MySpace page has this cover, as well as several others from the new album, on it. Like just about every track by Ronnie Martin, this is dancey, fun, and thoroughly enjoyable.
Something BLUE: POD’s “Bullet the Blue Sky”
Ok, so this is actually a U2 song, but U2 pisses me off and their version is only okay. Sonny and the POD crew take all the potential in this song and bring it to fruition. Killer guitars, powerful vocals, and the great lyrics that Bono and Edge wrote for the original song come together to create a track that still stands as one of POD’s best, even a decade and multiple albums later. Do yourself a favor and check the song out, it’s well worth the download on eMusic, iTunes, or whatever platform you use.
