QOTW: Album of the Decade

Jeremy Ritch

Thanks for the answers I got last week. This week’s question come sup because I have been reading all the 10,000 lists about best albums of the decade, some top 10, some top 20, some top 50, some even more. Only one has truly impressed me with a variety of music that I truly enjoy on it: Jeremy Ritch’s Top 50 Albums of the Decade (Jeremy is pictured to the right, I wish my pastor’s taste in music had been this cool).

I am currently prepping my list, but am as of yet undecided on a few of my top slots. At the moment, the leader candidate for the #1 spot is At the Drive In’s Relationship of Command. I doubt it gets supplanted, but the other top slots are very fluid at this point.

Album of the Decade ATDI Relationship of Command

This week’s question is mostly to help me make my decisions, so admittedly it’s selfish… but hey, it is MY website right? So, without further hoopla, here goes: With this decade coming to a close, what are YOUR top 5 albums that were released in the years 2000 through 2009?

Best answers win free music, in fact, there is a promise of prizes to at least 3 of this week’s comments… so comment away.

  1. I clearly rate albums more on the fact that they’re my favorites than on trying to be objective:

    1. Cool Hand Luke- Wake Up O Sleeper
    2. mewithoutYou- Catch for Us the Foxes
    3. Cool Hand Luke- The Sleeping House
    4. Cool Hand Luke- The Fires of Life
    5. Radiohead- In Rainbows

The first 4 are definitely really special records to me, and while 5 is too, it’s more there simply because of how good it is on it’s own disconnected to anything else. The 4 though… man, got me through some tough times and are so relational it’s incredible. I firmly believe that Cool Hand Luke is the most under-appreciated band to come out of the Christian subculture.

  2. off the top of my head…

    is a real boy
    demon days
    bleed american
good news for people who love bad news
and (even though I just discovered it) room noises

  3. I hate doing these things because there are so many good things being left out… but for what its worth:

    5. Norah Jones – Come Away With Me
    4. The Avett Brothers – I & Love & You
    3. Deltron 3030 – Deltron 3030
    2. Johnny Cash – American IV: The Man Comes Around
    1. Andrew W.K – I Get Wet

  4. Random note: Jeremy Ritch is sexy.

  5. 01 the Faithful Anchor – Unwed Sailor
    02 Rock Action – Mogwai
    03 Cush – Cush
    04 Antics – Interpol
05 Dust of Retreat – Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s

  6. I think I’m going to just have to limit it to one album per artist to make it work. This list may or may not actually be accurate (only 5 albums!), but these five albums have had a pretty big impact on me.

    1. Extol – The Blueprint Dives
    2. Further Seems Forever – The Moon Is Down
    2. The Spirit That Guides Us – North and South
    3. Mono/World’s End Girlfriend – Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain
    5. Jimmy Eat World – Clarity Live (Because it’s the only way to legitimately sneak Clarity on a 00s list!)

  7. ack, top five of the decade is impossible! here are five great albums, but i wouldn’t necessarily stick to them as the best of the decade if i spent hours thinking about it…
    1. johnny cash – the man comes around
    2. tom waits – alice
    3. the white stripes – white blood cells
    4. pigeon john – … is dating your sister
    5. the flaming lips – yoshimi battles the pink robots

honorable mention: metwithoutyou – catch for us the foxes, mr t experience – yesterday rules, gorillaz – demon days, la symphony – call it what you want

  8. […] few days ago, I asked you, my readers, to post your top 5 albums of the decade. All the lists were solid, so I picked 2 at random to receive free music. Thus, Aaron and Skot will […]
