The 10 in 10 of 2010

While a top 10 of the best albums of the year may or may not be on thepaintedman’s agenda, a top 10 film list has arrived. Following the list, a few notes on films that didn’t make the cut. In the reverse order and 10 in 10 style, here are the best movies of 2010:

10. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Big fun for the whole family, starring Jay and Nick.

[rating:7.5/10]

9. The Karate Kid

Better than expected, even though Johnny doesn’t sweep the leg.

[rating:7.5/10]

8. Easy A

Maybe it’s just me, but Emma Stone is super hot.

[rating:8/10]

7. Youth in Revolt

Witty, fun, and highly entertaining. Michael Cera has staying power.

[rating:8/10]

6. Predators

So what if it’s basically a remake, it rocks!

[rating:8/10]

5. Inception

Intriguing Sci-Fi plotline with a cast of great actors.

[rating:8/10]

4. Defendor

Oh yes, Captain Industry, it’s time for the lime juice.

[rating:8.5/10]

3. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Michael Cera kickin’ major ass. It’s milk and eggs, bitch!

[rating:9/10]

2. Kick-Ass

Mediocre, racist, and disturbing comic book translates to awesome movie.

[rating:9/10]

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

Easily one of the best in series of phenomenal movies.

[rating: 9.5/10]

Close Calls:
Going the Distance
She’s Out of My League
Hot Tub Time Machine
Date Night

No, The Social Network is not on the list. Want to know why? Because it was boring and uninspired… for as interesting as the story truly is, the movie is not. Despicable Me is also not on the list. The hype may have been what killed it, but it was simply okay… enjoyable to watch once or twice, but that’s about it. Black Swan would likely be on the list if thepaintedman had a chance to view it as of yet. This is likely the case for The Fighter, as well. Perhaps, the same could also be said for Exit Through the Gift Shop, Dinner for Schmucks, Salt, and True Grit. All worst of the year lists should include Grown Ups. Daybreakers had an awesome base for the plot, but was simply dull. Toy Story 3 and Shrek Forever After were enjoyable, but nothing to rave about.
